Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment prepared a rehabilitation plan for territories after Sochi Olympics
The agency admits that certain mistakes have been made in environmental protection during the process of preparation for Sochi Olympic Games, Yugopolis informs.
«Surely, certain mistakes, including the ones by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, were made during the first stage of preparation for the Olympics, and we believe that we are now correcting them quite successfully», — Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Rinat Gizatulin has noted.
This is how he has commented the statement by WWF Russia Chairman Igor Chestin on the fact that considerable damage had been caused to unique natural complexes, including the Sochi National Park woods, in the process of preparation for the Olympics.
According to Gizatulin, 3.7 thousand hectares out of 198 thousand hectares of the Sochi National Park have been given for development.Inadditionaltothat, theprocessofpreparationfortheOlympicGamesincludestheconstructionofanewwater supply and sewage system and conversion of boiler plants for the use of the natural gas.
Gizatulin has noted that the rehabilitation plan for territories after Sochi Olympics had been already developed and approved, and its implementation would start from January 1, 2013.
