High seismic activity expected in Romania in 2013
High level of seismic activity is expected in the upcoming 2013 in Romania: experts forecast an average of 15 earthquakes per month, Ukrinform reports.
«We’re talking about earthquakes, which power does not exceed 5 points, since the prediction of more powerful underground vibrations remains an undoable task for seismological science», - said director of the Romanian Institute for Earth Physics (NIEP) Dr. Mircea Radulian.
The scholar noted that in a seismically active zone, such as Vrancea, earthquakes with capacity of more than 5 points are observed with periodicity of once in every 2 years.
According to the Romanian Institute for Earth Physics, in 2012 they registered an average of 10 earthquakes per month.
