Bulgarian organic products predominantly exported

In Bulgaria the portion of farms certified for organic farming is negligibly small while the land used for the production of biological foods is only 0.1 percent of the overall arable land.

These are figures provided by Eurostat regarding EU policies in the sphere of organic farming. The only country that stands after Bulgaria in that respect is Malta. Bulgarian organic products boil down to herbs, fresh, frozen or canned fruits and vegetables, nuts and honey.

Only 5 percent of local organic farms, however, are sold on the internal market. According to experts despite the fact that the market of organic products in this country is still underdeveloped, it has quite a potential.
