Heavy blizzard caused traffic troubles in Moldova
The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure has warned drivers against traffic difficulties on some segments of the national motorways, caused by a heavy snowfall continuing here since January 25 night.
According to the ministry, at present, the snow-blocked road segments are: M1 Chisinau-Leuseni, at the Romanian border (kilometer 64), M2 Chisinau-Soroca, at the Ukrainian border (kilometer 33-34), R1 Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni, at the border with Romania (79-80 kilometers), R3 motorway Chisinau-Hincesti-Cimislia-Basarabeasca, R30 Anenii Noi-Causeni-Stefan Voda, at the Ukrainian border, as well as R34 motorway Hincesti-Leova-Cahul-Slobozia Mare.
At noon, as many as 260 snow-removal vehicles and 190 employees were involved in cleaning works.
The border-crossing point Leuseni-Albita has been temporarily closed over bad weather conditions.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service of the Ministry of the Interior, as many as 15 heavy-duty trucks are stuck near the villages Tudora (Stefan Voda raion) and Novotroitskoe (Anenii Noi raion). Moreover, power outages have been recorded in six raions in the country.
The State Hydro Meteorological Service issued an orange code [the second degree of weather warning] for the next days.
