Ukraine relies on Japanese investment in agriculture - Rybak
Japan is an important trade partner of Ukraine, particularly in industrial, financial and agricultural sectors, as well as in the field of energy saving technologies and energy security.
This was stressed by Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine Toichi Sakata, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada reported.
«Given that the global problem of food supply is becoming increasingly acute, and taking into account the high potential of Ukrainian agriculture, I am sure that Ukraine will become a major partner of Japan in this field,« Rybak said, adding, «In this connection, Ukraine expects a significant investment by Japanese companies in its agricultural sector, particularly in the construction of elevators, export terminals and so on.»
Rybak in this context expressed confidence that an agreement on liberalization, promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, the draft of which is currently pending expert evaluation by the parties, will give an additional impetus to economic cooperation between the two countries and will be an important signal for the Japanese business community regarding safeguards for their investments in Ukraine.
In turn, the ambassador also called for the need to expedite signing an agreement on liberalization, promotion and reciprocal protection of investments, which will promote trade, economic and investment cooperation, particularly in important areas such as energy efficiency and energy security.
