Bulgaria is among EU Members with lowest expenses for military personnel

An analysis of the European Strategy for Security shows that Bulgaria is among the EU Members with lowest expenses for military personnel.

Austria spends most - 35,000 euro per military person, while the cost in Bulgaria is 5,000 euro. However, Bulgaria is second after Greece when it comes to military personnel per 10,000 of the population. In Greece there are 119 military personnel per 10,000 people, while in Bulgaria the number reaches 45.

According to the Defense White Paper, military expenses in Bulgaria in 2014 must be stable and about 1.5% of the annual GDP. The average level in the EU is 1.6% of GDP.
