Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s committee on economic integration held meeting in Chisinau

The Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s committee on economic integration, legal approximation and convergence with EU policies held a seminar in Chisinau on February 12. The seminar was entitled ”Syncronization of the eastern Partnership states’ national legislation with EU economic legislation”, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

In his speech, the Euronest committee co-chairman (Moldova) and chairman of the parliamentary economy, budget and finance commission, Veaceslav Ionita, referred to the synchronization of the national economic legislation with the European Union’s standards, especially to the institutional reforms in the field. ”We are aware of the fact that we carry out these reforms not for the European Union, but for us, for our needs,” Ionita said.

Ionita expressed hope that reforms under way in Moldova would lead to the signing of an association agreement and a free trade agreement with the EU.

The EU Euronest committee co-chairman (Sweden) and member of the European Parliament, Göran Farm, emphasized the fact that the synchronization of the Eastern Partnership member states’ legislation with the EU's is very important for the European Union’s economic integrity. In his opinion, this process also interacts with the social processes within the relevant states.

Göran Farm said that the EU states are willing to share their experience in the field, so that the Eastern Partnership member states could harmonize their national legislations to the one of the European Union.

The participants in the seminar also discussed the Eastern Partnership countries´ different stages as regards the economic convergence process with the EU, the commercial aspects of the juridical synchronization and the consolidation of the administrative and organizational bodies for an efficient implementation and application of the adopted legislation in the economic sector.

Representatives of the relevant Moldovan Ministries and of the civil society, European experts and members of the national delegation within the Eastern Partnership presented reports at the meeting.

The participants adopted a resolution, which includes a range of recommendations for Eastern Partnership member states, including the approval of some working programmes with an adjustment plan of the economic legislation to the EU standards.

Polish Euro-parliamentary Filip Kaczmarek was also part of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s delegation.

Also attending the meeting were Moldovan, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgian and Ukrainian MPs.
