Odessa preparing for EURObasket 2015

Odessa City Mayor included to European Basketball Championship 2015 Management Committee.

The final stage of the European Basketball Championship 2015 will be held in Ukraine. Odessa, along with Kiev, Dnyepropetrovsk, Lvov and Donetsk, is one of the main candidates aiming at holding the finals.

 In February 2012, the President of Ukraine signed the Ukaz (decree) concerning the preparation for holding the tournament, and the holding itself.

 According to the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers’ Decree, a EURObasket 2015 Management Committee was created, headed by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Nikolay Azarov. Odessa City Mayor Aleksey Kostusyev and Odessa Regional State Administration Head Eduard Matviycvhuk are included in the Committee, too.

 In order to get Odessa ready for the Championship, Aleksey Kostusyev signed a Decree to create a European Basketball Cup 2015 Preparation and Holding Management Committee, as well as a new profile Department.

 At the time being, the territory where the main basketball arena, training base and a hotel for the participating countries would be built by the investors has already been defined. Out of several Odessa City Hall’s offers, the investor chose the 8 ha area at “Odesselmash” Plant private territory. This is a territory that is situated maximally close to the historical center of the city, and stipulates for creating a single compact sports constructions complex, while having all the prerequisites for transport connection development, as well.
