Romania lost forests for more than €5 billion over the last 11 years
The total volume of illegal deforestation at the state and private forests in 1990-2011 covers the area of more than 366 thousand hectares; 80 million cubic meters of wood were cut down, amounting to €5 billion, says the Chamber of Accounts auditor report «Forestry situation in Romania in 1990-2012».
In the period under analysis the illegal deforestation was committed in many cases due to abuse and misuse by the forestry staff, Business24 informs.
