South Caucasus Gas Pipeline may expand
The South Caucasus Gas Pipeline may expand to deliver more gas within the framework of the second stage of Shah Deniz development in the Caspian Sea, as stated by Per Johan Bagge managing Azerbaijan Cas Supply Company operated by Statoil.
An average of 11.1 million cubic meters, or 68,000 barrels, were transported through the pipeline daily in 2012.
The final investment decision will be made in October 2013. Negotiations with buyers continue. The Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP) and Nabucco West are two other projects to transport Azerbaijani gas to Europe.
The South Caucasus Pipeline was launched in 2007. It has a diameter of 42 inches. 442km of the pipeline run through Azerbaijan, 248km through Georgia and 280km from the Georgian-Turkish border to Erzurum. Gas is sent to Georgia and Turkey.
