Laborites demand referendum on pullout of Georgian contingent from Afghanistan
On Monday, June 10, the oppositional Labor Party of Georgia turned to the Central Election Commission with the aim to conduct a referendum on the expediency of Georgian soldiers’ stay in Afghanistan, who participate in the peace-keeping mission as a part of international security assistance forces ISAF.
According to Laborites, if the authorities are not going to solve this matter, «It must be resolved by the Georgian nation», Business Georgia informs.
The Georgian military contingent has performed the peace-keeping mission in Afghanistan as a part of ISAF since August 2009. Since that time 29 Georgian soldiers have died in this country. According to the Defense agency, more than 1500 Georgian soldiers serve in Afghanistan.
