Ukraine increases gas production, reduces gas imports
NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine in January - May 2013 increased gas production by 1.7%. During this period, gas imports reduced by more than a quarter, the Ministry of Energy and Coal said in a statement Monday.
During this period, Ukrainian gas companies produced 8,655.4 billion cubic meters of gas, an increase of 142.8 million against January-May 2012. In May Ukraine produced 1,787.1 billion cubic meters, up 74.8 million or 4.4% more over the same period in 2012.
At the same time, gas consumption has reduced. In the first five months of this year, the country consumed 26,545.2 billion cubic meters of gas, which is 92.4% compared to last year's period. In May of this year, gas consumption was 2,068.5 cubic meters, 241.9 million lower, making 89.5% compared to 5 months of 2012.
During this period, Ukraine also reduced gas imports, which amounted to 9,378.8 cubic meters, 3,436 billion less than over the like period in 2012, making 73.2%. In May 2013 gas imports stood at 819.8 million cubic meters, 1,348.3 billion less and equals to 37.8%.
Gas transit was 32,164.3 billion cubic meters, which 6,331.9 less than over the same period in 2012 (83.6%). In May of this year, the transit of gas stood at 5,983.9 cubic meters, 375.4 million less (94.1% against May 2012).
