Turkey to launch 50th airport

Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Binali Yildirim announced Wednesday that an airport in Turkey's northwest province of Kastamonu, which has remained idle for the past 54 years, will begin operating on July 5.

"The Kastamonu airport will become the 50th in Turkey. From now on 7 airline companies will fly to 50 local destinations from 7 centers," Yildirim told the Anadolu Agency,

Stating that renovation of the airport had cost $100 million, Yildirim said 2 more airports would be opened in the southeastern provinces of Bingol and Sirnak by the end of the year.

Yildirim also announced that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would officially open the Kastamonu airport soon.
