11 remain in hospital after gas cistern explosion in Bulgaria

A total of 11 people, including seven firefighters, remain in hospital after a fire and a consequent explosion occurred in a train composition of propan butan-filled gas cisterns near Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Varna on Wednesday.

The fire erupted at around 4 pm EET on Wednesday, while the explosion followed some two hours later.

One of those injured remains in a critical condition, as he suffered 90 percent burns in the incident.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at approximately 11:30 pm, according to local media.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident, which occurred outside the village of Ezerovo near Varna.

The incident has posed no danger for the environment, according to Bulgaria's Environment Ministry.
