About 400 Ukrainians remain in Syria

Director of the Information Policy Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis said this at a briefing on Wednesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"About 400 Ukrainian citizens currently remain in Syria," he said.

Perebyinis said that Russian Emergencies Ministry planes, en route from Latakia to Moscow, evacuated eight Ukrainian citizens from Syria on August 27-28.

"The Ukrainian Embassy in the Russian Federation provided full assistance to [Ukrainian] citizens who arrived at Domodedovo International Airport. Now they are being sent further [to Ukraine] by train," he said.

A total of 182 Ukrainian citizens were evacuated from Syria in 2013, including 99 of them evacuated with the assistance of the Russian side.
