Foreign Ministry says statement on participation of Ukrainians in Syrian conflict is "unacceptable and groundless"
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said that a statement made by Syrian Ambassador to Ukraine Mohammed Said Aqil regarding the participation of Ukrainian citizens in the conflict unfolding in the country is incorrect, according to an official statement posted on the website of the ministry.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers Aqil's statement as unacceptable and groundless and the one that does not reflect the nature of relations between the peoples of the two countries," reads the statement.
The Foreign Ministry said that the Ukrainian side had repeatedly made statements in support of the settlement of the conflict "exclusively by political and diplomatic means."
The diplomats said that "any such statement should be confirmed by official authentic facts, which are absent in this case" and added that Aqil would be informed about the position of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
