Moldova extends gas supply, transit contracts

The Moldovagaz Company has signed gas supply and transit contracts for 2014 with the Gazprom Russian giant. The last round of negotiations on the matter was held in Moscow, Russia, on 25 December. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Valeriu Lazar made a statement to this effect before a today’s cabinet meeting.

Thus, the contracts on gas transit to the Balkan area and the contracts on gas supply for Moldovan consumers have been signed. Lazar said that, under estimations, the average gas price for 2014 would stand at about 365 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters. This would mean a decrease in the price by about 10 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters against 2013. “This is a small adjustment of decrease in the rate,” he said.

“From the juridical viewpoint, we believe that we have contracts for the next year, in fact, it is a kind of extension”, Lazar noted.

The gas supply contract for Moldova was prolonged more times, after the old contract had expired in late 2011. Moldova annually consumes 0.9 billion cubic meters of gas, imported from the Gazprom Company.
