Georgia is ready to provide maximum assistance to Russia to ensure safety during the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. This was announced by the Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili on May 24, the ITAR-TASS reports.

He noted that «the Georgian side will make every effort to ensure that during the 2014 Olympic Games at the Georgian-Russian border no incidents took place.»

On the eve, during official visit to Japan Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze stated that «the Georgian side is ready to hold consultations with Russia in the field of security at the Olympic Games in Sochi.» «Now all depends on Russia,» said the Minister.

As recalled by the IA Regnum, earlier, representatives of the Government of Georgia stated that both the country and Georgian athletes would take part in the Sochi Olympics. The former government of Georgia was constantly talking about the boycott of the Sochi Olympics, since it is held in the «occupier country» near Georgia's «occupied» territories.
