Ukrainian peacekeeping unit among best ones in MONUSCO
CONGO – A medal parade took place in the 18th Detached Helicopter Unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, serving with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).
Deputy Commander of North Kivu Sector Colonel Vidzhar Bnayir, representatives of the UN Mission HQ in Goma, command of other UN Mission peacekeeping contingents, and military observers participated in the ceremony.
During the medal parade, one hundred and twenty Ukrainian peacekeepers, led by the Unit Commander, Sniper Pilot Colonel Igor Yaremenko, received awards of the United Nations – medals In the Service of Peace.
Chief of logistics sector Mrs. Edith Weber also congratulated Ukrainian servicemen. She noted that the Ukrainian base camp is the best one among peacekeeping units of the North Kivu province.
Reference. Awards ceremony for participation in UN peacekeeping operations occurs twice a year in each national contingent. In this way, the international community honours the servicemen. Since March 2012, Ukrainian peacekeepers of the 18th Detached Helicopter Unit in the Congo performed 600 flights, spent over 800 hours in the African sky.
